Goehring, Charlie

HOF Class of 2022

A Pasadena High School alumnus, Charlie Goehring dedicated 37 years to coaching cross country and track in Pasadena ISD. As a student, he excelled in football and basketball, earning two varsity letters and playing on the Eagles’ 1958 state finalist football team—the only Pasadena ISD team to compete for a state crown.

After graduating from the University of Houston in 1971, Goehring began his coaching career at Beverly Hills Intermediate, Dobie, and South Houston Intermediate before leading the cross country and track programs at South Houston High for 16 years. He later returned to Pasadena High, serving as head and assistant coach in both sports. His teams captured multiple district and regional titles, qualified seven times for the state cross country meet, and in 1986 produced a state champion in the 800 meters.

Honored for his contributions, Goehring was inducted into the Gulf Coast Scholastic Track Coaches Association Hall of Honor (2009), recognized as the Brown Relays Honoree (2011), and named to the South Houston High School Alumni Hall of Honor (2020). The South Houston Goehring Invitational Cross Country Meet also bears his name.

Now retired, Goehring continues to support Pasadena ISD athletics as an official and starter. He and his wife, Sandy, have been married 61 years and live in Pasadena near their three children.
