Known affectionately as Coach Walker by her athletes, she dedicated 34 years to coaching within Pasadena ISD. Originally hailing from Burkburnett, she graduated from North Texas in 1975, launching her coaching career immediately at South Houston High School. There, she played a pivotal role in fostering the growth of the Lady Trojans' basketball, track, and cross country programs.

Transitioning to Thompson Intermediate after six years, Coach Walker achieved remarkable success, securing district titles across various sports for both seventh and eighth-grade girls teams. Concurrently, she took charge of the girls track team at Dobie High School, leading them to victory in the district championships.

Her prowess in coaching led her to Sam Rayburn High School, where she spent 25 years molding champions from 1984 to 2009. During her tenure, she guided numerous athletes to district championships and state competitions, including notable victories in cross country and track events. Her achievements were recognized with accolades such as the Secondary Physical Educator of the Year by the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, and Recreation in 1998.

In 2005, Coach Walker's contributions were further acknowledged when she was named Pasadena ISD Teacher of the Year and became a Region 4 finalist for the same honor, a rare feat for a coach. Although she retired from coaching in 2009, she continued to impart her knowledge through fitness courses at the school for three more years before retiring from Pasadena ISD.

Her legacy extends beyond her coaching career, with the prestigious award for the top girls performer at the annual Brown Relays named in her honor. Additionally, she boasts the distinction of being a veteran of three Boston Marathons, showcasing her enduring commitment to athletics and excellence.
