Dobie High School Student Earns First Place at State Powerlifting Championship

Dobie High School sophomore Jaxson Canales earned first place in his weight class at the state powerlifting championship held March 26–28, 2026, in Abilene, Texas.
Canales secured the top spot with an impressive total lift of 985 pounds, showcasing his strength, discipline and dedication throughout the competition. The state championship brought together top powerlifters from across Texas to compete at the highest level.
Under the leadership of Dobie High School coach Reginald Rice, Canales trained throughout the season to prepare for the state meet. Canales said, “For me, the best part is the training and being able to work toward a goal, so now that it finally paid off, it’s a great feeling.”

Pasadena ISD congratulates Jaxson Canales on this outstanding achievement and commends Coach Reginald Rice and the Dobie High School powerlifting program for their continued dedication to student success both in and out of competition.
