Marshall Kendrick Middle School Student Places Seventh in National Spanish Spelling Bee

Rogelio Lopez, a student at Marshall Kendrick Middle School, represented Pasadena ISD on the national stage this summer by competing in the National Spanish Spelling Bee, held July 12 at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Lopez placed seventh overall, competing against top Spanish spellers from across the country. His journey to the national competition began in February, when he took home the grand prize at the Region IV Spanish Spelling Bee. He then advanced to the state-level competition in El Paso in June, securing a spot at nationals.
The National Spanish Spelling Bee brings together top bilingual spellers from across the United States to celebrate language, culture, and academic achievement. Lopez’s top-10 finish reflects his dedication and the strong support of his family, teachers, and campus.
Lopez’s success highlights the strength of Pasadena ISD’s bilingual and dual-language programs, which continue to provide students with meaningful opportunities to grow both in and out of the classroom. Pasadena ISD congratulates Rogelio Lopez on this outstanding achievement.
