Pasadena ISD Girls Flag Football Takes Next Step at Regional Tournament

PASADENA, Texas — Pasadena ISD’s girls flag football initiative is quickly becoming one of the district’s most exciting new opportunities for student-athletes, bringing together schools and communities through a sport many are experiencing for the first time. Created through a partnership with the Houston Texans, Alvin ISD and Brazosport ISD, the program began with a single conversation between district coaches and the Texans organization.
That conversation led to the formation of a competitive league and a new platform for female athletes across the region.

Over the past two weeks, district competition built momentum as teams battled for postseason advancement, finishing with South Houston High School earning a spot in the Houston Regional Tournament.
South Houston will compete Saturday, May 16, at the Houston Methodist Training Center, facing Alief Taylor High School at 8 a.m. in the South Area Championship. The game is part of a single-elimination tournament that will determine which teams advance to the inaugural Texas Girls Flag State Championship, scheduled for June 13–14 at the University of North Texas.
The Trojans enter regional play following an undefeated district season and a championship victory over Pasadena Memorial, which finished as runner-up. The inaugural season also saw strong participation across Pasadena ISD, with every high school fielding a team and three advancing to the district semifinals, laying the groundwork for continued growth and expanded opportunities for female student-athletes across the district.
