Instructional Resources Selection

Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees adopted policies that defines the roles of the professional staff in selecting resources to implement the district's educational program and establishes criteria for the selection of these resources. Additionally, the policy specifies guidelines that are to be followed should the selected resources be challenged.

The Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees has approved Instructional Resources: Library Materials EFB (LOCAL) policy that guides the selection of materials for inclusion in campus libraries and classroom libraries.

The Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees has approved Instructional Resources: Instructional Materials EFA (LOCAL) policy that guides the selection of materials for instruction. 

At least 30 days following the posting of the following list of library materials, Pasadena ISD Administration will seek Board approval to purchase and include the following library materials in its campus collections, including both the ISBN numbers listed for each title, as well as all varying ISBN numbers assigned to library materials of the same title and content due to a varied print/production format (i.e., paperback, hardback, large print, translated language, braille, binding, etc.). 

Library Acquisition List

In compliance with state law, library materials recommended for purchase will be posted for 30 days to provide staff, students, parents, and community members an opportunity to review and comment on the materials prior to purchase. Comments must be submitted by completing the district’s form, which can be found by following the Library Acquisition List link above.
  • Request for Reconsideration of Instructional Materials

    The school board of Pasadena Independent School District has delegated the responsibility for selection and evaluation of library/educational resources to the school library professional staff/curriculum committee and has established reconsideration procedures to address concerns about those resources. Completion of this form is the first step in those procedures. Under Texas Education Code (TEC) §33.027, a parent, district employee, or person residing in a school district may submit a written challenge to any library material in a school’s library catalog. To submit a written challenge, an eligible individual must complete and submit the Library Materials Challenge Form. In accordance with TEC §33.027, an individual completing the form must identify how the challenged library material violates library standards adopted by the Texas State Library and Archive Commission (TSLAC).
