FMF-R (LOCAL)

USE OF DISTRICT TRANSPORTATION

When students or groups participating in competitions require the use of a school bus, the sponsor shall observe the procedures outlined in CNC-R.

Transportation is provided free of charge for approved UIL competition only.  For all other competitions, the students or group must pay the cost of transportation.

USE OF PRIVATE AUTOMOBILES

If a District employee’s private automobile is used to transport students to contest or competition sites, the employee shall be reimbursed at the current mileage allowance rate set by the District.  Employees who use their own automobiles and accept reimbursement for transporting students must carry liability insurance.

Students and parents shall use their personal automobiles at their own risk, and no reimbursement shall be allowed.

PUBLIC CARRIER

If transportation to the contest or competition site is to be by public carrier, such transportation shall be arranged by their Business Office and paid from student activity funds.

LIMITATION ON USE OF FUNDS

Money raised by student and parent organizations may be used only to pay for lodging, food, and transportation.  All other expenses shall be paid by the student.

NATIONAL COMPETITIONS

Students or groups shall be allowed to participate in national competition provided:

1.      The individual or group has qualified for national competition through progressive competitions at the District, regional, and state levels.

2.      The location of the competition is within the continental United States.

3.      The student is eligible under state activity absence rules and UIL eligibility rules.

Students may compete at the national level in successive years as long as they have qualified through progressive eliminations.

Whenever possible and practical, only one sponsor or chaperon shall accompany small groups of students to national competitions, even if the students come from different schools.

EXPENSES FOR NATIONAL COMPETITIONS

Individual parents or guardians shall contribute 40% of the cost of the trip for their child.  The remaining 60% shall come from approved money-making activities by the group.  (See FMB and FMB-R)

EXPENSES FOR CHAPERONS AND SPONSORS

Expenses for one sponsor for the first ten students shall be paid by the District.  Expenses for additional chaperons (required if eleven or more students are involved) shall be paid from the organization’s activity fund.

OBSERVANCE OF DISTRICT REGULATIONS

Students participating in such competitions shall observe at all times District policies and regulations governing student dress and conduct.  Parents shall sign a list of such regulations in order for the student to participate.  Failure to observe district regulations may result in disciplinary action, including immediate return home from the trip.
