DISTRICT EDUCATION COMMITTEE
|
The District Education Committee shall be composed
of 34 teachers, administrators, parents and community members as
outlined in BQA (L). The committee shall be facilitated by the
Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.

DEFINITIONS
|
The "Campus Administrator" category
includes principals, assistant principals, counselors and
diagnosticians.
"Classroom Teachers" include certified
teachers, librarians, nurses, speech therapists or other certified
employees other than those identified as campus administrators.
"Parents" include individuals with a
child currently attending the Pasadena Independent School District.
The parents shall not be an employee of P.I.S.D.
"Community members" include individuals
who reside or work within the boundaries of P.I.S.D. The community
member shall not be an employee of P.I.S.D.

CAMPUS NOMINATION PROCESS
|
Each school within each zone may nominate one
person from each of the elected groups represented on the District
Education Committee (DEC). Campuses whose representatives are
serving the second year of their two-year term may not nominate
another representative for that category from their campus.
Nominations shall be gathered through an election
of campus staff within each category. Before his or her name is
placed on the campus ballot, the nominee must indicate a willingness
to serve on the DEC if elected. Administrators shall vote only for
administrators and teachers vote only for teachers.
The name of the nominees receiving the highest
number of votes at each campus in each category shall be submitted
to the superintendent’s office.

DISTRICT ELECTION
|
Ballots will be printed listing the names and
campuses of all nominees for each category within each zone. The DEC
elections shall be held each year. Administrators shall vote only
for administrators and teachers vote only for teachers. Individuals
receiving the highest number of votes in each zone shall be
designated as the representative. In the event of a tie vote, lots
shall be drawn to determine the representative.

COMMITTEE APPOINTEES
|
In addition to the 18 teachers and eight campus
administrators elected by the District’s professional staff, the
superintendent shall appoint four parents and four community
representatives to serve on the DEC as a means of ensuring ethnic,
enrollment and geographic diversity.

SPECIAL PROVISIONS
|
No individual shall serve more than two
consecutive years, unless he or she was named to replace a
representative who resigned at mid-term. An individual who has
completed a full two-year term shall be eligible to serve again on
DEC after one year.
Should an individual resign during the two-year
term, the person receiving the next highest number of votes in the
most recent election shall be asked to complete the term. |
