Camera Systems

The Pasadena Independent School District has made great strides in improving technology.  One such improvement is the installation of state of the art digital security cameras in all of the districts elementary schools and the upgrade of the existing surveillance cameras in all of the districts secondary schools. This project is being completed by Convergint Technologies, located in Houston Texas. These cameras are utilized to monitor student flow, intruder presence, and resolution of conflict.  Externally, the entire system can be accessed via a secure internet connection by any of the P.I.S.D. Officers from their vehicles.  The project is also incorporating all of the districts intrusion alarms which are monitored by the PISD Police Dispatcher, 24/7.  Upon completion of the project any intrusion alarm received by the Police dispatcher will also trigger a security camera in the same area and a real time video window will come up on a screen in the dispatch center.  This will be of great assistance in dispatching officers to silent intrusion alarms because it will allow the dispatcher to advise the officer(s) of any activity observed in the alarm area prior to their arrival thus helping to enhance their safety in responding to these types of calls and helping them to identify suspects or victims.

Radio Communications\Mobile Data Terminals

Technology for the Officers in the PISD Police Department is also evolving.  We are tenants on the 800 Mhz Harris County Regional Radio System.  This allows the officers and dispatchers to have immediate radio contact with other Law Enforcement agencies with jurisdictions adjacent to ours.  Initially, we utilized the Mobile Data Terminal system for access to the State and National Records Systems (TDPS, TCIC, and NCIC) with Motorola T-9100 Mobile Data Terminals.  As technology changed, the T-9100 machines became obsolete and upgrades were necessary, the department has upgraded from the Motorola T-9100 to Dell Latitude D-610 laptops.

Laptop Computers

Our present and future needs assessment has resulted in the purchase of Dell Latitude D-610 laptop computers.  These laptops have been configured to allow the officers to remove them from their vehicles and take them into a school district building and plug into the district computer network and access the report writing software and complete their reports. In addition, each lap-top has been equipped with a Verizon PCS card which enables them to access the Internet, and this gives to  each Officer the ability to view the camera systems in the schools from the parking lot or any other location.  The PCS card also provides Officers the ability to file criminal charges through the computer system of the Harris County District Attorney.

Computer Aided Dispatch System/Records Management

ARMS ENTERPRISE (End to End) provides our CAD/Records Management software, we have also implemented with the assistance from END 2 END a software program that allows the officers to write their reports from their vehicles via their laptops using the Verizon Wireless cards.

Freelinc wireless microphones connect to our portable radios via Bluetooth technology and provide freedom and safety from the corded microphones.

We are currently looking at options to equip our Police vehicles with GPS to allow more effective and efficient deployment of manpower and resources to calls for service within the school district.
