Presentations

The Pasadena Independent School District Police Department is very proud of the various presentations that were developed by our staff.  Presentations are prepared for administrators, faculty, staff, parents, students, local churches and civic organizations.  These presentations are conducted in English and Spanish and handout materials are normally provided.

Online Safety:   This presentation explains the dangers of online predators to faculty, parents, and students.  Topics covered include:  How to protect your child online, How online predators search for victims, The dangers of social networking sites and teen chat rooms, and How to report an online abusive offense.   The Pasadena ISD Police Department has expended over a thousand hours online, “chatting” with hundreds of online predators and have learned certain safety issues that everyone should know.  One common trait is that they want to exploit your child.  There are an estimated 100 million children online, and an estimated 600 thousand predators online.  These numbers are astonishing.  This program can be presented in English and Spanish and handout materials are provided.

Faculty & Staff - All school district employees must complete a two hour Gang Awareness program, which includes local gang history, colors, signs, graffiti and most importantly what constitutes a gang and or gang member.  A manual that was developed by PISD Police Department accompanies the training.

Students - Presentations are available for High School, Intermediate, and Elementary School students.  Most programs are for Elementary School aged students, which teach children how to stay out of gangs and describes the consequences.  Other topics include drug prevention, stranger safety, law enforcement careers' days, K-9 demonstrations, and the proper use of 911.

Parents - Presentations are available for PTA groups, parent meetings, church groups, local civic organizations and other school districts on gang awareness.  These programs are helpful to adults in understanding gangs and dealing with the problem of gangs in the community.  A manual for parents accompanies the presentations.

D. W. I. - Presentations covers costs in lives and money due to D.W.I. cases, how consuming any alcohol impairs driving ability, penalties imposed by the State if convicted of D.W.I, how to spot a drunk driver,  how to avoid an accident, and  and how to call police for help in removing violator from streets.

Personal Safety - Presentation covers ways to reduce chances of becoming a robbery or rape victim when shopping.  What to do and not to do if approached by a criminal intent on taking your property.  Area of home that needs special attention to make them safer and less likely to provide a hiding place for criminals.  How to avoid becoming a car-jacking victim and what steps to take if involved in a rear-end collision, where the person striking your car may be a hijacker.

Latch Key Children - Presentation informs parents on how to establish safe procedures for children coming home to an empty house or apartment.
