Objective:
Using images from space, the student will use the Geography standards to explore and identify different earth features.

Materials needed:
Computer(s) with Internet connectivity.
Depending on which earth feature category chosen, may want to provide globes with lat/long and political boundaries.

Procedure:
Students can work individually, in small groups, or this can be used as a whole group activity (with the screen being projected).
Students enter their name(s) and then choose what earth feature category they want to identify.
Students are presented with an image taken from space, and hints based on the geography standards. Each hint is worth points that will be subtracted from the student score.
When a student believes he/she can name the earth feature, they are presented with a list of possibilities, and given points if successful.
The student is then given all the hints for that feature, and  Internet links are provided for additional information.

Assessment:
Student score summaries are given for each feature in the category.

Additional Information:
The images used are from 2 sources: images taken by NASA space shuttle astronauts, and students in the EarthKAM project.
Additional images can be found at http://eol.jsc.nasa.gov/sseop/   and http://www.earthkam.ucsd.edu/ and http://earth.jsc.nasa.gov/sseop/efs/
