Procedure: This web application is based on "Highways, Hubs, and Networks", a comprehensive technology curriculum developed by AT&T and Scholastic. It includes a 135 page teacher's guide, an instructional video, a poster describing the history of telecommunications, a copy of Alexander Graham Bell's patent, and a piece of fiber optic cable. (see http://www.att.com/attlabs/brainspin/corner.html for the Teacher's Corner.) Brain Spin contains five modules:

1. the numbers game: the history and use of telephone numbers

2. who was alexander graham bell?: Bell's invention of the telephone

3. building the network of networks: history and use of the Internet

4.what are fiber optics?: history of fiber optics

5. routing calls through the network: lessons and a hands-on activity

Each module can be used alone or with "Highways, Hubs, and Networks". Each module is divided into on-line lessons and activities. The modules offer an excellent opportunity for reading practice and development of comprehension skills. The teacher can then develop worksheets to check for comprehension.
