What:
This instructional arrangement/setting is for providing special education and related services to students who are expected to be confined for a minimum of 4 weeks as documented by a physician licensed to practice in the United States.
Who:
Students may be provided homebound due to broken bones or other injuries that severely limit mobility or require bed rest; due to serious, non-infectious illness, during recovery from major surgery; or for pregnant students with significant health problems that may be complicated by the pregnancy.
Additionally, homebound or hospital bedside
instruction may also be approved for chronically ill students who are expected
to be confined for any period of time totaling at least four weeks throughout
the school year as documented by a physician.
This includes students with health problems that require recurrent
hospitalization within the district or extended recuperative periods within the
home following treatment or hospitalization.
These cases are rare.
The goal of the homebound program is to maintain
student process in the general curriculum during the period the student is
unable to attend class on the home campus.
In order to facilitate this process, the home campus teacher will be
requested to provide general information as to assignments and class
expectations. Near the end of a
semester the teacher may be requested to provide assignments and final exams and
assign final grades.
