Mrs. Dunford was born in Ft. Worth, Texas and grew up
in the Dallas area. As an elementary age student, she studied piano and
sang in choirs at school and at church. She learned to play the flute in
seventh grade at Vanston Middle School in Mesquite, Texas.
When she was in high school, she was in the marching
band, the concert band, and the jazz band. She was a founding member of
the Woodrow Wilson High School Rifle Corps. She played flute, piccolo,
oboe, and alto saxophone at Woodrow.
Mrs. Dunford attended college at the University of
Houston earning her Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and Level 3 Orff
certificate. She played flute in the concert band, marched with the
flags, and even played bass drum one year.
Mrs. Dunford began teaching at Sparks Elementary in
1985.
She has been married for twenty-five years. The
Dunfords have one son and a daughter-in-law. |

Conference 11:45-12:30A product of Pasadena ISD, Mr.
Nguyen attended elementary school at Golden Acres. While at Park View
Intermediate, he learned to play the trombone in the band and to play the
cello in the orchestra. He graduated from Sam Rayburn High School and
earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Houston.
During his last semester at the University of
Houston, Mr. Nguyen was assigned to student teach at Sparks with Mrs.
Dunford. He had planned to be a band director. However, after spending
several weeks at Sparks, he discovered that teaching elementary students
was way too fun! He has taught music at Sparks since 2005.
Mr. Nguyen is also an adjunct director of the
Pasadena Memorial High School Band, teaches private trombone lessons, and
deejays. He performs regularly with
The 225 Big Band,
The Reckoning, and
the St. Pius V Catholic Church Ensemble.
In his free time, Mr. Nguyen plays the guitar and
drums, learns about new technology, and practices martial arts. |
