South Houston High School holds the vision that all students will be productive, ethical, and responsible citizens in the twenty-first century. Our goal is to promote the intellectual, ethical, and social
development of students through a challenging instructional program and a caring classroom and school environment.

Mr. Steve
Fullen
Mr. Fullen began his educational career in 1995 as
a bilingual fourth- and fifth-grade teacher at
Kruse Elementary School. In 1997, he became
the peer facilitator at Pomeroy Elementary
School before moving to the district’s central
office as a bilingual/ESL facilitator for the
Alternative Teacher Certification Program.
Most recently, Mr. Fullen was an assistant principal at Dobie High
School. The 12-year education veteran received his
bachelor’s degree from Concordia Lutheran
College in Mexican-American Studies in 1983,
and then received a master’s from Concordia
Seminary in 1987. He is currently working towards his doctorate in educational
leadership. |

Ms. Paula Ballew
Ms. Ballew earned her Bachelor of Science
degree in Drama, Speech and English from Stephen F. Austin State
University. Her first year of teaching was at South Houston High School
in 1968 where she taught drama. The next year she taught 9th grade
English at Salinas High School in Salinas, California for the fall
semester and then 7th grade English at North Shore Junior for the spring
semester. She remained at North Shore the following year. In 1970 she
decided to stay home with her first child and remained home with both
children until 1980. In 1980 she began teaching 8th grade English,
drama, and speech at Miller Intermediate School down the street on
Fairmont. She earned her Masters of Art degree in 1988 from the
University of Houston - Clear Lake. She earned her certification to
become a principal in 1992 and the same year became an assistant
principal at Miller Intermediate where she had been teaching. She came
to South Houston High School as an assistant principal in 2000.

Mr. Harvey
Zuniga
Harvey Zuniga graduated from the
University of Texas – Pan American in Edinburg, Texas with a
Bachelor of Arts in English and Mathematics. He taught secondary
mathematics with the Brownsville ISD for eight years and with the
Point Isabel ISD for three years. Mr. Zuniga also served Point
Isabel ISD as an Instructional Facilitator for three years and,
after completing his M. Ed. in Educational Administration from the
University of Texas – Brownsville in 2004, served as an assistant
principal at Port Isabel HS for four years before joining the SHHS
staff in 2007-2008.
