The H.O.S.T.S. (Helping One Student to Succeed) program affords my students with hands on opportunity to work with children.  The students work one-on-one with a child who can benefit with some extra help in reading comprehension and language development.  My students go every Wednesday to L.F. Smith Elementary School during their class period and mentor for 30 minutes and they are back in time for their next period class.  My students also make special projects for their child during the semester, such as Valentine Cards, and they form a very special bond with the child.  The success of the program is two-fold; the children at the elementary school benefit with the extra one on one time and my students benefit in that they feel that they are capable of helping another human being.
