![]() National Junior Olympic 2007 Qualifiers: Francesca Berntsen - 1st Place GOLD in Women’s Saber, 3rd Place BRONZE in Women’s Epee, Evelyn Guajardo - 3rd Place BRONZE in Women’s Foil, Anthony Tierney - 2nd Place SILVER in Men’s Foil, Jose Aguilar - 3rd Place BRONZE in Men’s Foil , Martin Rodriguez - 3rd Place BRONZE in Men’s Foil , and Leo Barragan - 5th Place in Men’s Foil. These students will be traveling to Denver, Colorado in February for the National Junior Olympics Fencer wins 1st Place at Galveston
WHAT SOHO FENCING IS LOOKING FOR:
South Houston High School has two fencing programs. The first program is a fencing P.E. class that allows students to learn and experience a new and different lifetime sport. The second is a varsity program that can take the student to a competitive Olympic fencing level. In the varsity program they can earn a letter in fencing. (1) In Physical Education, students acquire movement knowledge and skills that provide the foundation for enjoyment, continued social development through physical activity, and access to a physically-active lifestyle. The student exhibits a physically-active lifestyle and understands the relationship between physical activity and health throughout the lifespan. (2) Students in Individual Sports are expected to participate in a wide range of individual sports that can be pursued for a lifetime. The continued development of health-related fitness and the selection of individual sport activities that are enjoyable is a major objective of this course.

Varsity Class Objectives: 1. Continued instruction with the foil and its usage. 2. Continued application of the tactical aspects of competitive fencing. 3. Advanced endurance and power training. 4. Further understanding of the rules of fencing and judging a bout. 5. To exhibit sportsmanship and conduct honorable to the sword and to our school. |
