Learn to program!

Basic programming skills are the foundation for all computer careers. If you understand how the computer "thinks", then you can explore any computer field imaginable.

Computers are everywhere, and the demand for people who know how to make them do what they are supposed to do will never go away. Taking Computer Science at South Houston High School will give you a good idea of whether or not you are cut-out for a computer career.

If you find that you do like computers, the field is wide open. From this class, you can go into networking, graphics design, web page design, database management, computer programming, computer maintenence. Most of these jobs pay over $40,000 a year starting! Give your future options!!

What you will learn.
Switch to Java in effect for 2003-2004.

If you take Computer Science I or Computer Science I AP, we will be learning Java, which is a newer language and is very marketable in the business world. This language is Object-Oriented which is a newer style of programming. Having a firm foundation of Java will open the door to a career in the computer industry. In Computer Science II AP, we build on the knowledge you gained in Computer Science I AP to reach your full potential as a Software Engineer. We will explore new topics and discover many exciting things that computers have to offer. It ends in a large scale software project that could be developed for a local business or community organization.

Important information
Computer Science is not an easy subject. That's why computer programmers get paid so much. Successful completion of Algebra I is mandatory to take this class. You should have a fundamental understanding of Microsoft Windows (how to open a program, what a directory is, etc.) and you should be able to type decently.
