  911th Grade Counselor
Ms. Mary Beth Alsdorf

Ms. Alsdorf graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in 1980. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Houston in 1984 and then began her teaching career. In 1988, Ms. Alsdorf completed her master of Science in education from the University of Houston-clear Lake and in 1993 she received her counseling certification. After twelve years of teaching mathematics, Ms. Alsdorf began counseling at South Houston High in 1996. She counsels the Class of 2009.


  12th Grade Counselor
Mr. LaBryant Benjamin

 

Mr. Benjamin earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications RATV with a minor in Integrated Social and Political Sciences in 1998 and his Master of Arts degree in Counseling in 2000 from Prairie View A&M University.   He began his career in education at his alma mater as a Professional Advisor for two years.   In the fall of 2002, Mr. Benjamin began his career in secondary education as a teacher in the Alief Independent School District.  He taught communication applications and teen leadership for three successful years at Hastings Ninth Grade Center.   Mr. Benjamin previously was a school counselor for three years at Alief Elsik High School for grades 9-12.   He is currently the 11th  grade counselor at South Houston High School.

  10th Grade Counselor
Ms. Kelly Brannan

Ms. Brannan graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in 1982 and then graduated from Baylor University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She then earned her master of Arts degree in education. Ms. Brannan began her teaching career at South Houston High School in January of 1989 where she taught English for six years. In 1994, she earned her Counseling Certification from the University of Houston - Clear Lake and became a counselor at Texas City High School. In 1998, Ms. Brannan returned to South Houston High School to continue her career as a high school counselor and is currently working with the Class of 2008.

Mrs. Barbara Coon

Mrs. Coon received her Bachelor of Science in Physics from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia in 1968. She taught 7th and 8th grade math and science at Buckroe Junior High before moving to Texas in 1970. Mrs. Coon substituted in Nacogdoches, TX for two years and then taught math for one year at Rush High and one year at San Augustine High School before coming to South Houston in 1974. She taught math and physics from 1974 -1988 and was the JETS and Mu Alpha Theta sponsor. Mrs. Coon has been a counselor at South Houston since 1988.


  Transitions Counselor
Mrs. Charleen Hogan

Mrs. Hogan earned her Bachelor of Secondary Education degree in 1971 from Texas A & I University. She began her teaching career in Hitchcock, Texas and taught school for 13 years as a Social Studies teacher. Mrs. Hogan earned her Master of Science degree in 1977 from Texas A & M - Corpus Christi and was a high school counselor at Miller High School in Corpus Christi for twelve years. She is currently the Transitions Counselor at SHHS. This is her first year at SHHS.
