Community Service Requirements 2007 - 2008
In order to be recognized at
graduation, seniors must have completed 100 hours of community service. Also,
many colleges and scholarships require a certain amount of community service in
order to be considered for either admission to the college or granting of the
scholarship. Community service must be completed and documented through the
school before graduation, and students can obtain documentation from the school
to be included in their admissions packets or scholarship information.
Certain requirements must be
followed by students to obtain credit for their community service. They are as
follows:
- All community service
must be turned in for the current year only. No service performed
before the current year will be accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS!
- Service performed
over summer is to be turned in by Friday, October 26, 2007, so that
verification can be performed quickly. Service performed each semester must be
turned in before the completion of the semester. Deadline for the fall
semester is Friday, December 7, 2007. Deadline for service performed during
the Christmas holiday is Friday, January 18, 2008.
- All
community service forms must be turned in immediately after serving. Students
must not wait. Verification of service is easier immediately after the service
is performed. Service which cannot be verified will not be considered.
- Only
community service which is performed during the time the student is enrolled at
SHHS will be accepted. Services performed prior to the years the child has been
a student here will not be considered.
- Only functions which
are performed after normal school hours will be accepted. School trips or
functions which happen during the school day are not considered.
- Students are
responsible for turning in their own community service forms and for checking
the progress of their own service. Students must turn in community service
which is done on a regular basis at the end of each semester. They should not
wait until the end of the service, especially when the service is performed
over a long period of time.
- Students
are to fill out all information and have the volunteer supervisor sign and print
his or her name in the appropriate places. All forms will be verified, logged,
printed, and returned to the student as quickly as possible.
- All students must
turn in all community service by Friday, May 23, 2008. Seniors must complete
service by then in order for it to be considered for graduation.
Community service forms are available from Mrs.
Brogan, counselor’s secretary, or from Mrs. Beaudry in the J-Hall. Return
completed forms to the box located in Mrs. Brogan’s office. Students are to
keep the pink copy of the completed form for their records. Questions about
community service may be directed to
Mrs. Kathy Beaudry.
