The Art Department is proud
to announce that our very own, senior Perla Arredondo, has won 1st
place in the Rohm & Haas 18th Annual Art Contest. Perla competed
against hundreds of students from the
Houston area to
be amongst 12 finalist who will be published in the Rohm & Haas Art Calendar
for the 2005-2006 school year. Being a finalist is an honor within itself, and
it is a first for South Houston High
School Last night at the
awards banquet, Perla was announced as the 1st place, $500 winner.
Her artwork will be placed on display at the Rohm & Haas Deer Park Facility
where it will hang amongst past winners. In addition to this great honor, a
$1500 award was presented to the South Houston High School Art Department for
her creative work. Perla is an outstanding person, not just because of her
artistic accomplishments, but as some of you know, she is also a survivor of
brain cancer. Through all of the obstacles that she has faced in her young life,
she has managed to prevail and be an inspiration to everyone around her.
Jonathan Walthall, her art teacher, as well as the rest of the art department
are extremely proud of her accomplishment and truly proud of the honor that this
deserving artist has brought to our school and community. Please congratulate
Perla and continue to support our SHHS artists. |
