Coach Whittington graduated from Charlton-Pollard High School before attending Prairie View University where he played as a fullback and TR. He coached high school in Beaumont, Angleton, Houston, Prairie View, Texas Southern University as well as coaching in the NFLE, RFL and the SFL before becoming the head coach at Prairie View. Coach Whittington also played with the Houston Oilers from 1974 to 1979. He and his wife, Winifred, have children Jason, Corey and Catherine.

Nelson is in her seventh year at South Houston. She is a nationally certified and state licensed athletic trainer. She has a bachelor's degree in Health Education and received her masters degree from the University of Houston, Clear Lake.
