Earnesteen
Milstead Middle School and Carter Lomax Middle School will both open for
fifth and sixth grade students in 2007-2008. Milstead Middle School will
be located on Roberts Road, off of Highway 3, between Edgebrook and
South Shaver. Ms. Milstead was a longtime teacher and administrator in
the district and was well-known among their colleagues and students.
Milstead graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor of
science degree in education in August 1941 and began teaching in
Pasadena ISD at South Houston Elementary in September 1942. While
teaching, Milstead continued her education at the University of Houston,
gaining her masters degree in 1946. After a year’s leave of absence to
teach in Germany, she returned to teach fourth grade at South Houston
until 1957 when she transferred to Queens Elementary. In 1960, Milstead
was chosen to open A. B. Freeman as principal where she served until her
retirement in 1986.
