SCHEDULES FOR SUBSTITUTES

Substitute teachers shall be called to duty for not less than one-half day. Substitute teachers who are on duty more than four hours shall be paid for a full day. Substitutes who are on duty for four hours or less shall be paid for one-half day.

Substitutes for noncertified personnel shall be paid for the actual number of hours worked.

SPECIAL PROCEDURES FOR SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS

When a substitute teacher is not available, the following procedures shall be observed:

1. In elementary schools, teachers who do not have self-contained classes 
    may be used as substitutes. The principal in each school shall ensure 
    that substitute duties are distributed equally among such teachers.

2. In secondary schools, substituting may be done by counselors, 
    assistant principals, qualified parent/community volunteers.

SPECIAL PROCEDURES FOR SUBSTITUTE COMPENSATION

In situations where no certified teacher is available and there is no teacher currently tied to the assignment, the superintendent may authorize the hiring of a noncertified, degreed substitute teacher to fill that assignment. The district may pay that substitute at a rate above that which is normally paid to the district’s long term substitute teachers.
