ELECTION JUDGES AND WORKERS

The Superintendent shall recommend to the Board qualified personnel to conduct elections for the District. The Board shall approve the appointments of election judge, alternate judge, early voting clerk and deputy early voting clerk.

REQUIREMENTS FOR JUDGES

Election judges must be qualified voters of the District and must reside in the election precinct in which they serve. 

The District shall offer appropriate training for judges prior to each District election.

REQUIREMENTS FOR WORKERS

 

QUALIFIED JUDGES AND ALTERNATES

Election workers at election day polling places and early voting polling places must be qualified voters of the District but need not reside in the election precinct in which they serve.

The District may offer appropriate training for election workers.

The Administration shall maintain a list of qualified election judges and alternate judges, subject to Board approval. 

In the event that a judge or alternate judge is unable to serve, the Administration may contact the County precinct judge to serve in a District election. 

In the event that voting precincts are added or existing precincts divided, the Administration may contact the County precinct judge to serve in a District election.

ADDITIONAL WORKERS

In addition to the judge and alternate judge, each precinct shall have the number of additional clerks, usually a maximum of three, necessary for the proper conduct of the election.

DISTRICT EMPLOYEES

During the early voting period, District employees who are qualified voters of the District may serve as election workers, including the positions of early voting clerk and deputy early voting clerk. 

At a polling place on election day, no District employee may serve as an election judge, alternate judge or clerk if an incumbent member of the Board is seeking re-election. 

When no incumbent Board member is seeking re-election, a District employee who is a qualified voter of the District may serve as presiding judge, alternate judge or clerk on election day, provided that the employee meets the Election Code requirements.

A District employee may not serve as presiding judge at the central counting station.  District employees who are qualified voters of the District may work at the central counting station as counting station manager, tabulation supervisor, or assistants to tabulation supervisor.  District employees who are qualified voters of the county in which the central counting station is located may work as clerks in the central counting station.

PAY FOR ELECTION WORKERS

Election workers shall be paid according to the following scale: 

Early Voting Clerk                          $12 per hour

Deputy Early Voting Clerks            $12 per hour

Precinct Judges                             $12 per hour

Central Counting Station Judge     $12 per hour

Alternate Judges                            $11 per hour

Clerks                                             $10 per hour

 On election day, election workers shall be paid for a fifteen-hour day at the polls. The election judge shall be paid not more than $25 for delivery of returns. 

The central counting station judge shall receive a minimum compensation of five hours’ pay regardless of the amount of time worked.
