Officer Michael Newton
Officer Michael Newton, the son of Ken and Cora Newton, was born April 3, 1968 in Monroe, Louisiana. His family moved to Pasadena, Texas in 1980. Michael attended Parkview Intermediate and was graduated from Sam Rayburn High School. He served in the United States Army and was Honorably Discharged in 1994. He was accepted by the PISD Police Department in May, 2002.
Mike is married to Kendra, and is the proud father of Madison. They are members of Golden Acres Baptist Church.
In 2006, Officer Newton was instrumental in developing information that led to the arrest of a suspect in an aggravated robbery and capital murder in Houston.
In 2007, Officer Newton investigated a case involving several truant
high school students. He located the students in a vacant
apartment and determined that the students had been overcome by
natural gas and were in a state of unconsciousness. His quick
thinking and immediate actions probably averted a tragedy.
Officer Newton is a member of the Pasadena ISD Police Officers Association, and generously gives of his personal time to help raise funds for annual scholarships that are awarded to deserving students within the Pasadena ISD School District.
Officer Newton is actively involved in the PISD Police Emergency Response Team, and has traveled to the Laredo ISD with other members of the team to assist in emergency response training for the Laredo ISD Police Officers. Michael and his fellow team members have received numerous accolades from the Administration of the Laredo ISD for their tireless efforts in exposing the Officers of the Laredo ISD to current tactics to confront school violence.
Officer Newton is an active member of the Honor Guard of the Pasadena ISD Police Department. The Honor Guard has represented our Department in an exemplary manner as they have presented the flags of our great nation. The Honor Guard also represents our Department with honor and humility at the funerals of Police Officers who have fallen in the line of duty.
In view of all these accomplishments, and his unswerving dedication to duty, Officer Newton is awarded the distinction of being PISD Police Department's 2007 Officer of the Year. |
