Welcome to the Pipe Organ
The
Switched-On
Physics Project was designed to be a dynamic and creative engineering project to include all interested
students and teacher who wished to participate. Our students
designed and constructed the organ from Lexan and recycled
electronics.
- The organ is constructed with a
clear casing , so
observers could see the massive undertaking of developing the
circuitry and the modified MIDI components.
- The students wanted to
create an organ that could be powered from solar energy to
illustrate the viability of using alternative energy to meet
specific electrical demands.
- The actual construction allowed
students, many of whom had never built anything before, to work as a
team to fabricate the organ body, bench, foot pedals and circuits,
while enabling them to encounter the technological modifications of
the electronics as well as the programming of the powerful computers
that drive the system.
- The organ was designed to impact the nearly
3,000 students at Pasadena Memorial High School while sharing the
vision and development with the nearly 3,000 students at Dobie High
School through the participation of Mrs. Obenauf.
