The assignment

A research project is a requirement for English IVA.  Research topics will be two-sided social, political, or economic issues.  Both sides of each issue will be discussed in oral presentations to the class.

Information needed

Your research should gather information that provides "data" to support your position, statistics, definition (s) and a direct quotation from an expert.

This information will be gathered from a minimum of four sources:  at least one of the sources must be a book.  You may use more than one book.  Read the Class Handouts to get complete information. 


Resources

The subscription databases shown on the Research Resources page provide your electronic / subscription or "Internet" resources for your project.  Reference books will be found on your class reserve cart or through the Library Catalog.


Evaluating Information

Be sure to utilize credible and reliable sources  -- Resources found on the Research Resources page have authority and can be considered credible and reliable

Citing Sources

A Works Cited page is to be included with your paper. 

Your Works Cited page must be created using NoodleTools.  This Library Worksheet for Citing Sources  will offer you help as you gather citation information.

Preparing Information

 As you gather information about your topic, you MUST correctly document the source from where you found your information.  I will give you a  library handout to help with this.

4.       You must fill in all the information you find about your topic on a graphic organizer that I will teach you in class.

Research Project Due Dates 

1. Print-out / Xerox of 4 sources:   Thursday, Nov.19th

    * Each source should be at least 1 pg. in length

    * Each source must have the citation listed at the bottom             of the page (including Xerox copies of books)

    * Each of the 4 sources will count as a daily grade 

2. Final Project:  Friday, December 11th

    * See the list of requirements for your specific project

    * Counts as 2 major grades

    * Last day to turn it in for a late grade: Dec. 15th

       (NO PAPERS ACCEPTED AFTER THIS) 

3. Oral Presentations

    * We will begin the presentations on Tues. Dec. 15th

    * Counts as a daily grade
