Environmental Issues

World Geography - Pre-AP

The assignment

You will use your time in the library to read various articles to increase your knowledge about an environmental issue of your choice.  As you read, you will be expected to take notes to be used in a research report.  The purpose of the report is to present a thorough explanation of the issue and to describe differing viewpoints of the topic. 

Information needed

• Thorough explanation of the issue

• Describe differing viewpoints of the topic

• Other details that might be included:

  • Information about possible solutions

  • Public policies regarding the issue

  • Influence of environmental groups (if so, how)

  • The article with which you most agree OR the article you felt was the most substantiated of those you researched

Resources

At least four sources of information are required.

The subscription databases shown on the Research Resources page provide your electronic or "Internet" resources for your project.  Reference books will be found on your class reserve cart.

Evaluating Information

Be sure to utilize credible and reliable sources  -- articles that are self-published or that rely on personal opinion, publications that are slanted in favor of one side, or sites that are strongly commercial will not meet criteria required from good researchers.  Resources found on the Research Resources page have authority and can be considered credible and reliable

Use the handout provided to show sources used.  At least four sources of information are required.
