 Based on data analysis the intervention team will select students to receive services from the Language Paraprofessional.  The Language Paraprofessional will receive specific objectives that need to be met per student.

 Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Fluent in English and in SPANISH (oral & written)
  • Must have – the District P.A.C.Test (Paraprofessional Academic Competency Test) or 48 Hours of college with official transcript

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • To develop/reinforce student's vocabulary by instructing on Greek and Latin roots, suffixes, prefixes, synonyms, antonyms, analogies, idioms, verbal fluency. 
  • Select appropriate  texts for students considering their language, vocabulary, and experience.  In this manner, students can use their schema to learn new vocabulary.
  • To use comprehension strategies to identify main ideas, topic sentence, author's purpose, reading genres, etc.
  • To introduce rules of grammar, word structure, sentence structure, and paragraph structure to develop written language skills.

The following curriculum programs have been selected to be used for the Language Paraprofessional because they are research-based, systematic and multi-sensory.

     Estrellita: Phonological awareness program for bilingual students Pre-Kindergarten through First Grade.

     Stevenson: Phonological awareness program for English native speakers Pre-Kindergarten through First Grade.

     Also attend district training: Cancionero and Phonics Lessons-Sing a Song Poetry.
