New chapter in Kruse Elementary history begins

The first day of school at the new Kruse Elementary School students’ was filled with adventure and surprises as they explored their new school, met their new principal, the superintendent and not to mention – made headlines.

The 100,000 square foot building is equipped with promethean boards and document cameras in every classroom and computer labs. The new school, which houses kindergarten through fourth grade students, is located across the street from the old building off Main Street. The campus is the final project in a bond program approved by Pasadena ISD voters in November 2004.

Kruse Elementary has a long standing history in the community, as it is the oldest school in Pasadena having served the district since 1897. A section of the original wood floors has been placed in the new building’s front office as well as the homemade desk used by Charles Munger, one of the founding fathers of Pasadena schools.

“Students are so excited because they see so many technological tools around the building and it’s so different from what we used to have,” Assistant Principal Becky Montemayor said.

Kruse Elementary students have more than a new school, they also have a new principal this year - Sandra Jobe. Students first watched Jobe on the promethean boards during the “Kruse News” morning announcements, but later on she went to each classroom and introduced herself to students.

Students also received a visit from Pasadena ISD Superintendent Kirk Lewis and later on that day KTRK- TV Channel 13 news stopped by to interview students about the first day of school.
