From
the sounds of bluegrass music filling the air to fun-filled bingo
games, many Pasadena schools held a variety of activities and events
to celebrate Grandparent’s Week recently.
For the 12th year, the Bayou Banjo Band highlighted the week at
Jensen Elementary with two performances. The group played several
bluegrass and traditional American tunes and students assisted the
group with several of the musical numbers. Afterward, students
introduced their grandparents to their teachers and toured the
school.
“This is always a fun event for the students and their
grandparents,” said Candy Bernsen, Jensen principal. “It is
something we look forward to every year and it is our special way of
honoring the contributions of all grandparents.”
Sparks Elementary celebrated Grandparent’s Week by holding its
first-ever “Bingo Night.” Students were able to play bingo and other
games with their grandparents during the
evening. In addition, the students were a ble to have professional
portraits taken with their grandparents.
“Everyone had a great time,” Sparks counselor Alejandra Aguilar
said. “The smiles on the faces of the grandparents and the students
said it all.”
Frazier and Moore elementary schools held a breakfast for all
students and their grandparents to celebrate the week, while Mae
Smythe Elementary had a special recognition luncheon for all
grandparents.
Several elementary schools invited grandparents to have lunch with
their grandchild during the week. Campuses hosting grandparents for
lunch included Gardens Elementary, Genoa Elementary, Meador Elementary, Matthys
Elementary and Teague Elementary.
“It was nice to see all of the grandparents that visited our
school,” said Teague Principal Lorie Morris. “Grandparents can make
a lasting impact on a child’s life and this is just one special way
we can recognize those contributions.” |
