Forty-four
Thompson Intermediate School students recently returned from a
weeklong trip at the Keystone Science School in Keystone,
Colo.
For the 16th year,
Thompson students participated in the wilderness experiences on
life and Earth science. Each morning began with breakfast,
cleanup, then out on a hike where instructors pointed out the
study of ecosystems, tracks, scat, tree identification, history
of mining, seeing a real gold mine, panning for gold, rocks and
minerals.
The students also had classes at
night where they studied mountain life zones, rock types, and
animal adaptation. Lessons in recycling were also a key element
of the students’ training.
Students were also responsible
for the set-up at meals, washing dishes and pans after meals,
cleaning the dorms at the end of their stay and fixing their own
lunches daily.
