Whenever
there is a cause that benefits education and provides a
brighter future for students, Herman Williams always
works passionately to ensure its success.
The local businessman, civic leader and 1964 South
Houston High School graduate is always quick to give of
his time and resources to help Pasadena ISD. For his
commitment, Williams was recently named the district’s
2007 Distinguished Citizen. He will be formally honored
at a reception at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 8 at the Pasadena ISD
Administration Building.
“Herman is a great friend to Pasadena ISD,”
Superintendent Kirk Lewis said. “He has unselfishly
supported programs that benefit kids. No matter what the
cause, Herman has always been there to support our
district in a variety of ways – and for that – we are
extremely grateful.
Williams has always kept close ties with the community
and Pasadena ISD since his graduation from South Houston
High School. He served as co-owner of Rountree-Williams
Men’s Wear for many years and now works as an agent for
Qualified Properties, a local real estate firm. He has
volunteered in many Pasadena schools and is a member of
the South Houston High School Alumni Association. He has
also supported many activities on the Pasadena campuses.
In addition, Williams is one of the original founders of
the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce’s Education Foundation
and served as the organization’s president. He served as
a board member of the Pasadena ISD Education Foundation
for several years and is a steering committee member for
the Texas Invitational Basketball Tournament. Most
recently, Williams secured a partnership with the
Houston Chronicle that will assist in the goal of
raising $100,000 for the foundation.
“Herman realizes the importance of education and the
necessity of individual involvement,” said Sherry
Trainer, president and CEO of the Pasadena Chamber of
Commerce. “He believes strongly in the future of our
children and Pasadena ISD.”
As a long-time member of the Pasadena Rotary Club, he
has helped continue the tradition of recognizing
Pasadena ISD students as Junior Rotarians. He is also
involved in coordinating Rotary’s Drug Awareness essay
contest for intermediate school students.
“Herman Williams is the perfect example of how the
spirit of giving back to the community is alive and well
in our community,” Lewis said. “Pasadena ISD is most
appreciative of his efforts.”
