Volunteers sought for School Health Advisory Committee

Pasadena ISD is looking for parent and community volunteers to serve on its School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) for the 2007-2008 school year. The first meeting will be from 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30  at Park View Intermediate Library, 3003 Dabney, across from Veteran’s Memorial Stadium.

The meeting's agenda will cover topics including recess, physical fitness testing, and a recommendation for a coordinated school health program for the intermediate and middle schools.

The District School Health Advisory Council is a group of individuals representing segments of the community to provide advice to the district on coordinated school health programming and its impact on student health and learning. They provide a structure for creating and implementing age-appropriate, sequential health education programs, and early intervention and prevention strategies that can easily be supported by local families and the community. Every independent school system is required by law to have a School District Health Advisory Council.

There will be three other meetings during the school year. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact Pam Tevis, Assistant Director HPE/Athletics at 713-740-0839.
