South Houston Intermediate School will host a book fair in its
library Dec. 10-14 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
The students will visit the book fair with their reading classes
throughout the week, but the school’s librarian Glenda Neidecker
is extending the invitation to parents and the community.
“Our school is an integral part of this community, so we invite
all community members who would like to come and share our
excitement about this important event,” Neidecker said.
Neidecker said book fairs are beneficial to students because it
provides new reading opportunities for them.
“It’s always important to let students make their own choices in
reading material whenever possible,” she said. “Being able to
select what appeals to them personally strengthens their
browsing skills and makes the students more discerning readers.”
Profits from the book fair will go back into the school’s
Library Media Center budget, allowing the librarian to buy a
variety of new books that interest students.
In addition to hundreds of books, other items such as posters,
bookmarks, erasers and pencils will also be sold at the fair.
The price of the items will range from under one dollar for
small items to several dollars for hard cover books.
“We believe there will be something for everyone, so don’t miss
it,” Neidecker said.
