Brandon Kafarela, a student at Bondy Intermediate School, was selected to participate in Education in Action's 2008 Lone Star Leadership Academy's summer program.

Sixth and seventh grade students from across Texas have been selected to participate in this program based on their demonstrated success and leadership potential, an educator's recommendation and involvement in school and community activities.

Kafarela was recommended for the honor by his counselor, Teresa Urquiaga. He is the son of Isabelle Kafarela.

The summer program allows students to travel to Austin where they will develop leadership skills, visit state historical and political sites, and learn about future career and internship opportunities. The Lone Star Leadership Academy provides an opportunity for students to learn more about
Texas and how to become active leaders in their community.
