Pasadena Memorial to honor veterans with program

Pasadena Memorial High School will be honoring local veterans for Veterans’ Day on Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. in the school’s auditorium and the community is invited to participate.

Students and faculty were asked to give names of relatives and friends who have served or are currently serving in the military so they could be recognized at the fourth annual event.

Judy Kellow, a Memorial government and sociology teacher involved in the program, said the students are receptive to the program and the recognition of veterans.

“We are doing this to recognize the sacrifices and service that our veterans have given in defense of our country,” said Kellow. “At this time, with the conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan garnering so much attention, both pro and con, we feel that we need to let our servicemen and women know they have the support of the American people.”

The program will consist of patriotic songs as well as specific recognition of veterans attending the program. The school’s Pride and Patriotism Committee of the Student Council, Globetrotters, choir and orchestra will all be a part of the evening’s program. A reception will also be provided.
