Golfers hit the links for a good cause and raised $6,000 for
scholarships at the Pasadena Independent School District Police Officers
Association fifth annual fund-raising golf tournament at Battleground
Golf Course in Deer Park recently. More than 100 golfers participated in the event. In the past three years, the association has given more than $15,000 in local scholarships to 20 students. “The people in our community never fail to impress me when it comes to supporting our youth,” said Pasadena ISD Police Officers Association President David Garza. “When we first began to organize these public events, we never thought we’d be funding these amounts of scholarships within just a few years.” Pasadena ISD Police Assistant Chief Troy Harrison praised the efforts of the association. “The men and women of the association work tirelessly to help the youth they serve to become productive citizens in our society by providing not only positive role models, but by providing a means of furthering their education in a career field of their choice,” he said. The association is comprised of the employees of the school district police department and support staff. Funds from the association have also been used to assist local families in need throughout the year and especially during the winter holidays. Apart from these financial needs, they have also helped in sending a Pasadena High School student to serve as a Congressional page in Washington D.C. for Rep. Gene Green and partially funded a Pasadena Memorial High School athlete to attend an “all star” football game in which he had been invited to play in. Garza credits the association’s fund-raising success to the support of many local businesses and individuals, especially A.C. Collins Ford, Hilton Furniture, Meador Staffing, Pasadena Home Depot, San Jacinto Harley Davidson and Smart Choice Auto Sales. “The association thanks all of our sponsors who have supported us this year and in past years,” he said. “Their contributions have helped pave the way for a bright future for many young people.” |
