New classroom wing to be unveiled
at Memorial in August

A new classroom wing at Pasadena Memorial High School is almost completed and will be ready to open its doors to students when classes resume on August 28.

The 24 classroom addition was approved by voters in a $299.88 million bond election in November 2004. School officials said English and math classrooms will occupy the new wing.

The addition was prompted by a rush of new housing developments in the Memorial attendance zone – many of which have come to fruition in the past three years.

The Southway Gardens development has sparked the growth in the Memorial attendance zone, with over 300 new home sites. In addition, 163 acres have been purchased for residential development area between Scarsdale and Highway 3.

Other signs of growth within the Memorial boundaries include 83 new home sites off of Space Center Boulevard (formerly Jana Lane). Additional areas of growth include Village at the Park at Burke and Crenshaw, Burke at Vista, Waters Court on Waters Street, Sun Meadow at Keith and Pansy, and Crenshaw at Beltway 8.

In addition to the new classroom wing, expansions on the school’s athletic facilities are nearing completion. A new field house near the football practice fields has been constructed and will be ready for move-in soon, officials said.
