Frazier Elementary School was selected
as one of 130 K-12 public schools nationwide to receive the 2007 HP
Technology for Teaching grant, which is designed to transform and
improve learning in the classroom through innovative uses of
technology.
During the 2007-2008 academic year, HP
Technology for Teaching grant projects will impact more than 36,000
K-12 students. Frazier will receive an award package of HP products
and a cash stipend for each teacher with a total value of more than
$31,000.
Each of the HP Technology for Teaching grant
recipients will use HP wireless Tablet PC technology to enhance
learning in engineering, math, science, computer science or business
courses.
Frazier's third grade team of teachers plans
to create rigorous units and integrate subject matter, bringing it
all together with up-to-date technology and making it relevant for
21st century students. All of the units delve deep into science
content and tie in reading, writing and math skills.
“I am so proud of this group of third grade teachers and the
advising grant writers, Amanda Maslonka and Jamie Murray," said
Frazier Elementary principal Rhonda Parmer. "This is a diverse group
of teachers with varying degrees of experience with technology.
Their classrooms are buzzing with excitement and anticipation for
implementing their lesson ideas. They opened the packages as if they
were small children at Christmas time, meticulously searching each
box for all of the goodies. They will use the supplies this summer
for staff development and to become fully aware of all of the
functions of the digital cameras, note tablet laptops and projection
devices. I am very eager to see this technology implemented next
year.”
