When the opening bell rings in the 2007-2008
school year on Aug. 28, there will be some new leaders greeting
students and staff.
Seven new principals have been appointed throughout the district,
including three at the elementary level and three at the secondary
level. A new principal has also assumed the top administrative spot
at the Guidance Center. Here’s a look at the principals who are
assuming new duties with the start of the new school year.
Steve Fullen - South Houston High School
Steve Fullen changed from Longhorn orange to Trojan red, as he
became the new principal of South Houston High School. Fullen has
served as an assistant principal at Dobie High School for the past
four years. He replaced Deborah Aubin, who retired in July.
Fullen began his educational career in 1995 as a bilingual fourth
and fifth grade teacher at Kruse Elementary School. In 1997, he
became the peer facilitator at Pomeroy Elementary School before
moving to the district’s central office as a Bilingual/ESL
Facilitator for the Alternative Teacher Certification Program.
The 12-year education veteran received his bachelor’s degree from
Concordia Lutheran College in Mexican-American Studies in 1983 and
then received a master’s from Concordia Seminary in 1987. He will
receive his doctorate in Educational Leadership and Cultural Studies
this fall.
Angela Stallings - Thompson Intermediate
Dr. Angela Stallings moved into another part of the South Belt
community as she assumed the principal’s position at Thompson
Intermediate School.
She replaces Greg Jones, who was named the district’s Director of
Grant Writing and Technical Projects.
The South Belt area has been home for Stallings for some time. She
has spent her 16-year career in education entirely at Dobie High
School, where she first served as an English teacher, then as
counselor, and, most recently as assistant principal. She is also a
1986 graduate of Dobie.
Stallings received her bachelor’s degree from Lamar University in
1991 and her master’s from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in
1998. She earned her doctorate in educational leadership from Sam
Houston State University in 2000.
Frances Burley - Parks Elementary
Veteran educator Frances Burley is the new principal at Parks
Elementary School. She replaces Sherry Meynier who retired recently.
Burley has spent 25 years in education and was an elementary
principal in Champaign, Ill. for three years before being named to
the position at Parks. She is a Texas native, as she began her
teaching career in La Marque ISD, serving as a Special Education,
first and second grade teacher from 1982-1993. She then went on to
serve in teaching and assistant principal positions in Fort Bend ISD
from 1993-2000.
Burley received her bachelor’s degree from Lamar University in 1992
and earned her master’s from the University of Houston.
Jill Lacamu - Moore Elementary
Jill Lacamu, former assistant principal at Frazier Elementary, is
the new principal at Moore Elementary. She replaces Pat Granger, who
retired this summer.
Lacamu began her career with Pasadena ISD in 1992 as a third grade
teacher at Burnett Elementary. She served as a teacher and peer
facilitator at Jessup Elementary from 1993-2000 and then became a
fourth grade teacher at Atkinson Elementary in 2000. The 15-year
veteran split time as an assistant principal at Fisher and Richey
elementary schools in 2003 before assuming the position at Frazier
one year later.
Lacamu earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of
Houston-Clear Lake in 1990. She received her master’s, also from
UHCL, in 2002.
Becky Vargas - Matthys Elementary
Becky Vargas, former coordinator of Bilingual/ESL, is replacing
Karen Hickman as principal of Matthys Elementary. Hickman recently
accepted one of the district’s Executive Director of Campus
Performance and Academic Assistance positions.
Vargas began her 23-year educational career in San Antonio ISD as a
special education teacher. She served as a special education
specialist for the Peace Corps for three years before Pasadena ISD
became her home in 1988. For the next 11 years, Vargas was a special
education teacher at Genoa Elementary, a bilingual teacher at Parks
Elementary and a peer facilitator at Matthys.
Vargas took an administrative position in 1999 as an assistant
principal in Houston ISD, but she returned home to Pasadena in 2003
as a special education specialist. She became the coordinator for
Bilingual/ESL programs in 2004.
Trinity University in San Antonio awarded Vargas with her bachelor’s
in elementary education in 1984, and she later received her Master
of Education from the University of Houston in 1991.
Robert Stock - Sam Rayburn High School
Robert Stock has been long familiar with ‘The Rayburn Way’ at Sam
Rayburn High School, as he as served as an assistant principal for
the last four years, and he will now take the lead as principal at
the school. He is replacing Troy McCarley who recently accepted one
of the district’s Executive Director of Campus Performance and
Academic Assistance positions.
Stock has an extensive background in private education serving as a
physical education teacher at St. Augustine Catholic School, a
social studies teacher and coach at St. Pius V Catholic School and
St. Thomas High School and a social studies teacher and head
football coach at Mt. Carmel High School.
Stock first joined the Rayburn in 1999 as a geography teacher and
coach. He returned to Rayburn in 2002 as a social studies teacher
and coach before he was named as assistant principal in 2003.
The 19-year veteran received his bachelor’s degree in criminal
justice in 1988 from the University of Houston. In 2003, Stock
earned his master’s in educational management from University of
Houston-Clear Lake.
Keith Moore - Guidance Center
Keith Moore, former assistant principal at Sam Rayburn High School,
is the new principal at the Guidance Center. He replaces Doyle
Alexander, who retired.
Moore began his educational career in 1983 as a high school band
director in Mississippi and moved on to serve as a secondary band
director in Arkansas for a couple years. Moore joined the Pasadena
ISD family in 1986 serving the next 11 years as a band director at
South Houston Intermediate and then at Beverly Hills Intermediate.
In 1997, Moore took his first administrative position as assistant
principal at Miller Intermediate and then moved to Rayburn in 2001.
Moore earned his Bachelor of Music Education from Delta State
University in Mississippi in 1983, and he later received his Master
of Education from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in 1997. |
