Transition Fair will provide information
for children with special needs

The Pasadena ISD Special Programs Department will host the 2006 Transition Fair from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at South Houston High School.

The transition fair will offer students and their parents the opportunity to meet with private and public agencies that provide a variety of support services to transitioning youth and adults with disabilities. The event will focus on students who receive autistic, mental retardation, emotional disturbance, learning disability, deaf/hearing impaired or blind/low vision services.

Dr. Vickie Mitchell will be the keynote speaker for the event. She has extensive knowledge in the area of transition and will speak to parents about the importance and preparedness for graduating students. She will focus on how students and parents can be partners with the school to create a cycle of success.

This year, the Transition Fair will include a forum of college counselors and Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) representatives who specialize in working with people with disabilities.

Organizations that will be at the event include the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), the Mental Health and Mental Retardation Authority (MHMRA), the Texas WorkSource and various colleges and other agencies.
