Jackson GEAR UP students break
ground on nature center

Jackson Intermediate School GEAR UP Science Club students, faculty and staff, parents and honored guests held a groundbreaking ceremony recently to begin work on the nature center planned to be built in the school's atrium.
 
Students explained to the audience the nature center would help them improve their surroundings as well as learn about the ecosystem necessary to make the nature center a beautiful place to learn.
 
Guests received special potted flowers as a “thank-you” for attending. The GEAR UP counselor Pileirol Retta, counselor Pam Mayfield and science teachers Catherine Betts and Jasmin Freeman-Brooks were responsible for guiding the students through the event.
