Board approved construction contract
for Hughes Road Middle School

The Pasadena Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a construction contract for Hughes Road Middle School at its March regular meeting.

Cadence McShane Corp. was awarded the construction contract, while Fugro Consultants and Precisionaire Air Balancing will conduct associated testing services for the project. Randall-Porterfield Architects will oversee the design of the building.

Ground is already being cleared for the new school. The school site will be located near the intersection of Riverstone Ranch and the new Hughes Road. Construction of Hughes Road Middle School was approved by district voters as part of the 2004 bond program. When completed, the school will house fifth and sixth grades and alleviate overcrowding problems at surrounding campuses.

Hughes Road Middle School will be the fourth 5-6 grade campus to open in Pasadena ISD. Rick Schneider Middle School welcomed students this past August, while Carter Lomax and Ernesteen Milstead middle schools are currently under construction and will open at the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year.

The Hughes Road Middle School building itself will be 120,000 square feet when completed. Officials said the targeted completion date will be in late May 2008.

The middle school concept is designed to place fifth and sixth grade students into a single campus designed to make the transition easier to intermediate school.
