Music

                                   Music News:

McMasters' Mustangs are very busy making music.  Every student began the year by learning Patriotic songs and rhythm patterns.  We have been playing rhythm games, rhythm instruments and reading musical notation.  The xylophones are the most popular instruments and the children are getting better everyday.  They have not only been practicing their rhythm skills, they have been practicing their reading and math skills.  We sing math songs and read the song's words from our books and song charts.

Now we are beginning Halloween songs and will soon be doing Red Ribbon Week songs (don't use drugs), Veteran's Day songs, Thanksgiving songs and songs of Christmas Around the World.  Believe me, Christmas will be here before we know it.

                            Grade specific activities:

Kindergarten is playing xylophones and rhythm instruments.  They are singing songs that coordinate with their regular classroom lessons.

First graders are studying career songs, xylophones and rhythm instruments.

Second graders are beginning to learn about the composer George Handel and his Royal Fireworks music.  They also have the Veteran's Day Program after the PTA meeting on Nov. 12 at 7:00 p.m.

Third graders are learning to play the keyboards and know "Hot Cross Buns" and "Mary Had a Little Lamb".  They also play the xylophones often.

Fourth graders have learned four notes on their recorders and can play some beautiful songs with xylophone accompaniment.  Ask them to play the Chinese lullaby.  The ordered recorders will be in around Halloween.

Fifth graders just finished learning their D. A. R. E. program music (which will be in January) and studying the composer Bach.  We just started working on the Nutcracker songs for the play in December.

I invite you to come to the programs and share in your children's

excitement.  Learning is hard work but we are also making it fun.

Come and enjoy music with us.
