Bluebonnet Reading Club

20 books written within the last 3 years are nominated each year for the "Texas Bluebonnet Award".

Students all over Texas in grades 3-6 who read 5 or more books before the end of January are eligible to vote for their favorite story. The author of the book with the most votes wins this prestigious award. At Matthys, 3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th grades participate as well as some students in the second grade. The students earn special patches for reading and passing the test on 5, 10, 15, and 20 bluebonnet books. All winners names are announced during morning announcements.
