The staff at Matthys recognizes the need for a strong foundation in reading, writing and mathematics that is developed at all levels, Pre-Kindergarten through Fourth Grade. Therefore, the Matthys Elementary Campus Improvement Plan utilizes data for the Texas Academic Excellence Indicators System, other Standardized testing information and needs assessment surveys to set the goals for the school year.

After desegregating data from the previous year, the staff is continuing to emphasize TAKS Objectives through a variety of methods proven successful at Matthys. Student learning will be enriched through the use of technology, TAKS review materials, and daily teaching strategies. A stronger emphasis on parent involvement will be encouraged through 9-week conferencing and parent education classes.
