Schools receive $1,000 donation from H-E-B

Five Pasadena ISD schools received a $1,000 donation to their campuses from H-E-B Food Stores recently.

L.F. Smith Elementary, Matthys Elementary, Miller Intermediate, Pearl Hall and Genoa Elementary were presented with their checks at the H-E-B store at Spencer and Shaver recently.

The Pasadena schools received the cash awards as the result of H-E-B stores throughout the state of Texas participating in a back-to-school competition on sales of select national brands and with the support of participating vendors, the company gave away $120,000 to local public schools statewide.

In the fall of 2004, during the back-to-school sales season, local H-E-B stores encouraged customers to buy certain products with a percentage of those sales to be directed to education. The stores with the highest sales received up to $5,000 from vendors such as Conagra Foods, Unilever and Clorox. H-E-B in turn donated these funds to 45 schools in a collaborative effort to support education.
