Award-Winning and Notable Books

 

Texas Bluebonnet Award
This award was created to get students in Texas excited about reading.  Twenty books are nominated every year, and the students in Texas who read the books chose the winner of the award.

Caldecott
Award
 This award honors the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.

 

 Newbery
Award
 This award honors the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.

Coretta Scott King Award
This award is given to authors and illustrators of African-American descent whose books promote an understanding and appreciation of the "American Dream."

The Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal
 This bronze award is given to an author or illustrator whose books published in the United States over a period of years have made a substantial and lasting contribution to literature for young children.

 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Children's Video
This award is given to the video's producer and honors outstanding video productions for children.

Children's Notable Book Lists
 The ALSC chooses books that are the best of the best in children's books, recordings, videos, and computer software.

 NCTE Award for Poetry for Children
The National Council of Teachers of English give this award to the author of poetry they believe is the most distinguished from the previous year.
Pura Belpré Award
This award is given to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.
Orbis Pictus Nonfiction Award
 The National Council of Teachers of English give this award to the author of nonfiction books they believe are the most distinguished from the previous year.		 John Steptoe Award for New Talent
 This award is given to new talent and to offer visibility to excellence in writing and/or illustration that may be overlooked.


 
Robert F. Sibert Informational
Award
 This award is given to the author of the most distinguished informational book published in English the previous year.
